I think this time around, maybe I should just run 12 psi until some snow water injection or something comes into the picture. Maybe with tons of timing, it will still be 10 second capable...

I think you should start as low as your waste gate can possibly go...
Power is power. Whether you get it from low boost high timing, or high boost low timing, power is power. The engines you use only handle X amount of power. Decide how much X is and choose the most reliable method of getting there. In my opinion, for you to obtain X amount of power with your given combo is nothing more complicated than a moderate amount of boost and a moderate amount of timing. I bet you can max out that block on pump gas.
Remember, always start conservative and work you way up. I don't see any need for alcohol injection or big timing or anything special. Just some smart tuning, and patience.

Low boost sounds great, but I don't want compressor surge since my turbo is geared more towards 13psi and higher. To be honest with you, I don't actually remember any compressor surge when I had the wastegate turned all the way down to 9.5 psi Btw-I should be picking that motor up on thursday and I would like to just run it 'as is'. A motor that sits in a warehouse on a rack won't rust up the cylinders will it?
